Longboard Pub Case Study

Problem: Total collapse of the sewer line under the patio of the famous Longboard Restaurant and Pub in Downtown Huntington beach.

This problem was misdiagnosed by the first and second rooter company.

This line backed up four times in two days. One proposal received prior to the arrival of S.O.S. was to entirely shut down and tear the place apart for repair.

To try and save some money, another rooter company suggested cutting corners by lining thru the collapsed section and breaking thru the public walk way and alley without notifying the City for an encroachment permit. This company was also unable to give a full warranty and if there was another problem out further the owners were informed they might need to call in another company. That is the kind of company that can give the industry a bad name; typically charging a little less, cutting corners and leaving a bigger problem for the owner or the next company to fix. If an attempt had been made to shoot the liner thru, it would have bunched up and the entire place would have been shut down.

The owners wanted a better solution so they called S.O.S. Plumbing & Expert Drain Service. Although the price was comparable to the other self proclaimed “pro”, the customer received more value in a far superior job that also included a full warranty. The job was started within 40 minutes of arrival and the pub did not have to close. The City of Huntington Beach was also contacted immediately upon arrival and S.O.S. received permission over the phone to proceed. Due to the emergency situation, a small access hole under the patio was made. S.O.S. carefully pulled and numbered the pavers, removed the root damaged connection under the patio and also removed all the other roots from the line. The crew of S.O.S. reinserted the line and found another huge break under the alley, once again the City was called and they sent out a supervisor. Once the supervisor arrived, S.O.S. showed him the sewer lining that was just completed and he was very impressed with the quality. Approval was given on the spot.

Once both liners were complete the access hole was back filled, the pavers were put back in place and cleaned up. This job was a huge success due to the experience of Chris Fults and the crew at S.O.S. Plumbing and the outstanding product that Perma-Liner™ offers.
